The NHS 10 Year Health plan proposes to abolish Healthwatch England and 152 local Healthwatch, and transfer functions ‘in-house’ to local authorities and NHS Integrated Care Boards once legislation has passed. This is a result of the Review of patient safety across the health and care landscape, led by Dr Penny Dash.

If this goes ahead as planned, it will remove the only collective, independent and statutory opportunity for the public to hold the NHS and social care system to account. 

Healthwatch Telford and Wrekin is proud to announce the appointment of two new Co-Chairs, a move that reinforces our commitment to amplifying the voices of local residents at a time of national uncertainty. Despite recent announcements regarding the future of Healthwatch, our mission remains unchanged: to be the independent champion for people who use health and social care services in Telford.

Re: The Future of Public Voice and the Importance of Independent Advocacy

Dear Secretary of State,

We, the Chief Officers/Chairs of local Healthwatch services across England, are deeply concerned by the government’s proposal to bring public voice functions under the control of local authorities and NHS bodies – undermining the independence that makes public feedback effective.

Healthwatch Telford and Wrekin often hear experiences from Veterans which indicate some Veterans can find it hard to access the services they need. We are your independent health and social care champion. We make sure NHS leaders and other decision makers hear your voice and use your feedback to improve care.
