Telford and Wrekin Veterans Health and Wellbeing Survey

We are particularly interested in whether veterans receive adequate support at the point of discharge to register with a GP and access appropriate NHS services. There is also a concern around whether NHS providers are routinely identifying veterans, in line with the commitments set out in the Armed Forces Covenant. Additionally, we want to explore what support or benefits are available once a veteran is identified within the NHS, and whether veterans are aware of and able to access the full range of services available to them.
Initial feedback suggests that veterans are not always asked about their service history when registering with a GP or attending hospital appointments. Even when this question is asked, it is often unclear what additional care or support, if any, follows. This raises concerns that some veterans may not be receiving the services or recognition they are entitled to.
We also want to know what support services are available to veterans and whether these services are easily assessable. Conversely, how well known might these services be to the veteran community
To explore this further, we have developed a survey aimed at veterans, available online . The insights gained from this will inform a series of focus groups designed to go deeper into individual experiences and identify areas for improvement.
Our aim is to use the findings to engage with health and care providers and work towards more consistent, informed, and effective support for the veteran community in Telford and Wrekin.
