Treasured Memories Dementia Cafe

Janet O’Loughlin, our award-winning Healthwatch volunteer, has started up a Dementia Cafe at Oakwood Retirement Homes with her friend Kath.

It was launched last week to a huge crowd and lots of great stalls and information – they were even in the Telford Journal! Janet explains what a dementia cafe is:

“The Treasured Memories café aims to provide the opportunity for people to meet monthly over a drink and cake. We will continue to invite arrange of agencies who will be able to offer advice and support, including practical help to those living with and effected by Dementia.

This includes the Alzheimer’s Society, Carer’s Centre, Red Cross, Healthwatch Telford & Wrekin, plus different agencies will be invited to attend each month.

There will be chance to talk and exchange information with the library service who will provide games, books and reminisce boxes. We aim to generate some fun, laughter and plan for next month’s meet up-we welcome and value your suggestions.”

The next dates for your diary are April 18 and May 9 from 2pm.
