Blood test update

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital trust issues advice and guidance regarding test tube shortage
nurse working

As you may be aware, there is currently a temporary shortage of blood test tubes primarily due to a larger than usual demand and short-term issues relating to transportation. Due to the shortage, the NHS has stated they will only be offering blood tests for urgent cases until 17 September after which blood tests will continue as normal. The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust have advised us that the situation is being monitored closely at a local level and that they are following the national advice.

All appointments booked up and to including the 17 September 2021 apart from those which are clinically essentially will be canceled, however patients who have already booked routine blood tests will be notified by phone or email if there are any changes to their appointment. All urgent blood tests will carry out as usual.

Due to this delay, the online booking system for blood tests has been temporarily disabled. For more information, please visit the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust’s ‘Book a Blood test online’ page: Book a blood test online - SaTH.
